These issues just point to one underlying, glaring point: we were not ready.
We
were not ready for this war, and we're willing to pay huge amounts of top dollar and
increase our national deficit to shore up our mistakes. Not only that, but we're willing to
abuse our current military, because the repercussions will probably start in a few years.- “bobbyyen” a Soldier from CA

Demand a responsible way out of Iraq!!
through EPIC
|
Right now, the Senate is considering amendments to the Bush administration's $82 billion spending request for tsunami relief and U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Join the Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC) in asking the Senate to amend the emergency appropriations bill.
Urge them to require the Bush administration provide a detailed plan for supporting Iraq's transition to a fully independent and stable democracy, including a clear timetable for the reduction and full withdrawal of U.S. forces.

$82 billion more for Iraq: Demand an exit strategy
through MoveOn PAC
|
While Congress is considering an additional $82 billion for Iraq, they should insist that America has an exit strategy from Iraq with a timeline, that we do not construct permanent bases in Iraq and that we end war profiteering by corporations.
Please sign our petition urging Congress to act today. |

Demand an Exit Plan!

When Congress refused to continue funding the Vietnam War, that spelled the end of the U.S. campaign there. Based on thoughtful analysis by both conservative and progressive analysts, this alert is the first step in the process of getting out of Iraq.
Next week, the House of Representatives will vote on the president's request for $82 billion to pay for the ongoing military occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq. That's a lot of money. It is enough to feed the world's starving people for five years or more, and would save the lives of millions of kids.
Aside from how that money could be better spent, a toll continues to be taken on the Iraqi people, our own service members, and America's image throughout the world.

Bring the Troops Home Now!
through AFSC
|
The immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops is necessary to stop the escalating violence in Iraq.
The continued presence of U.S. troops is a destabilizing force in the region and contributes to the increasing loss of life. The rising deaths and causalities of Iraqis, Americans, and others in Iraq, including as many as 100,000 civilians, demonstrates the urgent need for U.S. withdrawal.
The U.S. must withdraw, so that the UN and other agencies, working with the Iraqi interim government, can bring peace and stability.
Please sign the petition and join us in calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.

Support the Troops - Listen to Them!
through Operation Truth
|
Dear President Bush:
We, the undersigned, urge you to read Operation Truth's "After-Action Review," a report on the Iraq War composed entirely of unedited and uncensored feedback from the Troops who were there.
It is an invaluable and unprecedented source of information on the gritty details of our presence in Iraq and the daily concerns for our men and women in uniform. The troops offer positive comments as well as criticisms.
Regardless of politics, we must support the Troops and address their concerns. They are consummate professionals who have done the job they were asked to do without hesitation. They now need the Administration to support them in return, on issues such as mental health care, armor shortages and funding for Veterans' care.

"The Salvador Option" is Not an Option!
through Sojourner's
|
Newsweek recently reported that the Pentagon is considering a new plan for Iraq, known as "The Salvador Option," modeled on U.S. support of paramilitary "death squads" in Central America in the 1980s.
In El Salvador and Guatemala alone such groups assassinated or "disappeared" well over 150,000 civilians.
The invasion of Iraq was sold to the American public as a necessary means to stop terrorism and to promote democracy. Two years later, the United States is on the verge of initiating death squads. Urge your elected officials to oppose "The Salvador Option."
